Overview
The CL-415 is an amphibious water bomber built to fight forest fires. Skimming across a lake or the sea at speed, it fills its tanks with about 6,100 litres of water in roughly 12 seconds, then drops it on the flames and returns for more.
It is the backbone of firefighting fleets in France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Canada. Production ended in 2015, but De Havilland Canada is building an updated version, the DHC-515.
