Overview
The US-2 is a large four-turboprop amphibian flown by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force for search and rescue far out at sea. Developed from the earlier US-1A, it can land on open ocean with waves up to about three metres high.
Blown flaps and a special hull let it fly very slowly and touch down in a short distance on water or land, so it can reach sailors and fishermen hundreds of kilometres from shore.
