Overview
The Ju 87 "Stuka" (from Sturzkampfflugzeug, dive bomber) attacked in near-vertical dives, releasing its bomb at low height for great accuracy. Its bent "gull" wings and fixed, spatted undercarriage made it instantly recognisable, and wind-driven "Jericho trumpet" sirens added terror.
It was devastating in the early Blitzkrieg campaigns but slow and vulnerable to fighters, and suffered heavy losses over Britain in 1940. Specifications are for the Ju 87 B-2.
