Overview
The F-86 Sabre was America's first swept-wing fighter, using German wartime research to fly close to the speed of sound. In a dive it could even break the sound barrier.
Over Korea in the early 1950s, Sabres fought the Soviet MiG-15 in the first large jet-against-jet battles. Almost 10,000 were built, including licence versions in Canada, Australia, Italy and Japan, and it served with more than 30 air forces. Specifications are for the F-86F.
