Overview
The C-5 Galaxy is one of the largest aircraft in the world and the biggest transport in the US Air Force. Its nose swings up and its tail opens, so tanks, helicopters and other outsize cargo can be driven straight through from front to back.
From 2009 most surviving aircraft were rebuilt as the C-5M Super Galaxy (figures shown), with new General Electric engines and modern avionics, extending their service into the 2040s.
